The discovery of a new world

Listen to myself and my PhD student Chloe Lawlor as we discuss the discovery of the forming planet WISPIT 2b (honorable mentions to my MSc students Jake Byrne and Dan McLachlan). This discovery was made possible through an incredible collaboration with the Universities of Leiden and Arizona and in particular with Richelle van Capelleveen and Prof. Matthew Kenworthy who are leading the WIde Separation Planets In Time (WISPIT) survey program at the ESO Very Large Telescope.

Zooming in on a newborn planet

Listen to eerie music as we start from the dark skies park in county Mayo and make our way all the way to a new world in formation.

An astronomers life

Listen to me talk about my field of observational planet-formation studies and the life of a research (and teaching!) astrophysicist in general (hint: a lot of coding and math is involved ;) )

The DESTINYS survey

In this video I talk about observations of dusty disks around young stars in which planets are forming. These observations were part of a large survey called DESTINYS (Disk Evolution Study Through Imaging of Nearby Young Stars) carried out with the ESO Very Large Telescope. It is the largest such survey program using high resolution near-infrared observations which reveal the planet forming dust in scattered star light.
